Why Glamping?

We talked about how we want our wedding to be, and we agreed that spending time with the people we love is the most important part. We’d prefer to hang out around a campfire, celebrate, and do whatever we want in a private space/on private land than in some bar or restaurant. Luckily Ruth’s family has a small farm & farmhouse where we can do this. They used this farm to escape the city on weekends. They do some events on the farm each year including a fundraiser bluegrass concert and camping, as well as an annual pig roast with friends. We thought this would be the perfect place to host our loved ones for the wedding weekend.

The property has a couple houses, one will be accessible to us, the other is where their property manager lives and will not be accessible. The farm house we will be using has a couple bathrooms, kitchen, fireplaces, and is loaded up with games, movies, and books. It’s a cozy space. There is also a barn where we are planning on setting up a hang out space with some music/sound equipment and games.

We will probably schedule and set up some optional activities like a hike to the beach (just a few miles away), a “games olympics” where you gather points for playing various games, and an outdoor movie. We’re still thinking about ideas but don’t want to plan too many things. We are also open to suggestions if you have any ideas!

The rest of the time is for hanging out around the campfire, spending time with each other, and celebrating on private land where nobody is going to mess with us.

Glamping Accomodations

We will be staying with our guests at the Gibbs Farm. We are providing fully furnished “Glamping” tents at the farm for our guests. The tents are 16' in diameter and 9' tall.  They will be furnished with either one queen or two full sized beds depending on your party. Beds have a real mattress and bedding. Tents will also include a heated blanket, power, rug, lantern, and lounge furniture. A separate restroom will be provided nearby the tents and two are available in the farm house. To see more about the tents, you can go to Shelter Co.’s Rental Page for Classic Bell Tents.

There is also a farm house on the property with two additional bathrooms that will act as our inside hang out area.

Weather

In May, Tomales, CA generally experiences moderately chilly and breezy weather. The average high temperature during this month is around 65°F, while the average low is about 50°F. There is a 7% chance of rain on an average day, and the wind speed averages around 15 mph . This indicates a relatively dry but breezy month with comfortable temperatures for outdoor activities. The Gibbs Farm is near the coast so fog and a chilly breeze is common this time of year. Layers are recommended for clothing so you can bundle up when its cooler and remove layers when its warmer.

If you are flying in to SFO, we recommend one of the following transportation options to the Gibbs Farm.

  1. You can take a bus from the SFO airport non-stop to the nearest town of Petaluma and get an Uber the remainder of the way (or someone can possibly pick you up from there depending on the schedule and available cars/drivers.) The bus you would take is Groome Transportation. Here is a link to their website where you can see the bus schedule, purchase your fare, and see all the relevant information. When arriving at SFO, look for signs for the “Airporters” which is the bus pickup location. You will get off at the first stop at the Petaluma Fairgrounds Terminal. This ride is about 1 hour and 30 minutes.

  2. You can get a rental car or Uber to the farm. We will also coordinate ride sharing with guests who arrive and depart at similar times who wish to split the cost of transportation.

When arriving to the Gibbs Farm, please follow signs to the designated parking area.
